Herbal tea for hypertension is becoming quite popular today. Previously, as we know, people preferred to use mainly black tea, which became traditional in Soviet times.
Many have seen from their own experience that tea increases blood pressure, however, which one and in what quantities - it will be useful for anyone who prefers treatment not only with pills, but also with safer methods.
So, hibiscus tea raises or lowers blood pressure, and what kind of drink is it?

This plant becomes especially delightful during flowering - just these wonderful flowers of bright red color are, in fact, tea leaves, using which as a drink, many try to restore blood pressure. "Red" tea for hypertension was first used in Egypt and Tunisia. Further, in the middle of the 18th century, an amazing tea for hypertension spread throughout Europe, however, it became popular only in the 60s. I came to Russia only in the 90s - then even green tea was considered exotic.
Hibiscus itself is an annual plant "living" in tropical countries, namely:
- the Pacific Islands;
- Egypt;
- China;
- India and others.
In hot Egypt, this strong and pleasant-tasting tea is also called "Pharaoh's Flower". Here it is much more popular than its black or green "brother", and is sold literally at every turn. This beautiful herbal drink immediately became popular, like, at one time, green or Ivan tea, not only due to its peculiar taste and color, but also due to the ability to treat certain diseases with its help:

Sudanese rose and pressure
So, is it possible to effectively treat an organism prone to pressure surges with the help of hibiscus? Today, this question has been studied by physicians and scientists so well that it can be answered in detail and unambiguously.
Sudanese rose is an effective tea for hypertension - this fact has been established not so long ago, however, it is confirmed again and again, for this you can simply try to drink this sour and tasty drink daily, no matter if it is strong or not.
Today, the news is spreading more and more that it is cold red tea that can lower blood pressure, and its “hot version” can be drunk as a blood pressure lowering. But let us turn to laboratory studies - only they will reliably tell us about the truth. First, scientists decided to observe how such treatment is carried out, for example, in Egypt. It was found that different teas are used there in a variety of forms - both hot and cold.
The essence here is easy to understand - it doesn’t matter what, in fact, we drink - red, green or Ivan-tea - it gets into our stomach at about the same temperature, namely, in a warm form. Absolutely for sure: if you drank hot hibiscus to reduce pressure and it didn’t help you, the usual self-hypnosis just worked, because. the idea of a hot or cold drink is widespread today. You might as well drink iced black tea - for some, blood pressure will rise, while for those who are more prone to succumb to general judgments, it will remain the same.
Hypertension patients
In order to find out exactly what the treatment with Sudanese roses can be, scientists conducted an experiment. 65 people suffering from high blood pressure drank this wonderful drink every day for several cups. This continued for two months, the patients regularly measured blood pressure and observed their general condition. As a result, it turned out that hibiscus reduced the pressure in all patients by seven percent. If we compare this, say, with special medicines, here the decrease occurs by only one and a half percent.
As a dosage, an amount of about two to three cups per day can be recommended. For the body, as, again, it was revealed by doctors, preferably a warm drink - this way it is easier to digest. This also applies to the red tea in question, whether with or without sugar. By the way, not so common Ivan-tea has a similar effect. In other words, in Egypt, at one time, hypertensive patients were treated with the help of hibiscus, and in Rus', Ivan tea has long been a good remedy for normalizing blood pressure. Today, however, it has been undeservedly relegated to the background or even forgotten altogether.
Contraindications and recommendations
On the one hand, any herb, unlike tablets, acts gently, but even popular teas have specific contraindications.
Here's what applies to hibiscus:
- do not use it for people who often have low blood pressure;
- for those who suffer from high acidity, Sudanese rose is also not recommended, especially with lemon. Here, teas and other drinks with milk are the best fit;
- a contraindication is peptic ulcer, including its history;
- for those who use hibiscus (like, for example, the same Ivan-tea or green) for the first time, it is better to do this in small quantities, because. in some cases, it can cause allergies.
In conclusion, a few words can be said about the most preferred method of making red tea.
Doctors recommend not just brewing hibiscus, but preparing its decoction.
This method, again, works well with herbs - the aforementioned fireweed tea is best prepared in this way. So, one tablespoon of Sudanese rose should be poured with a glass of water - preferably hot, and then boiled a little, one or two minutes. It is also possible to infuse hibiscus (so good to cook and green) in a thermos for ten minutes. Advice to everyone - drinking red tea is best after a meal.
