Which doctor treats blood pressure?
So which doctor should be consulted if a person periodically has high blood pressure? Hypertension - a disease in which a person has high blood pressure, is treated by a doctor who is called a therapist in adult patients, and a pediatrician is called upon to deal with a similar problem in children . However, if hypertension is caused by diseases of the cardiovascular system, then such diseases are treated by a cardiologist. And with a problem associated with intracranial high pressure, it is advisable to consult a doctor whose name is a neuropathologist.
Causes of the disease
Hypertension in the list of the most common diseases of our century, unfortunately, is not the last. Moreover, in our modern age, high blood pressure is not only people whose age is usually called the elderly, but also young people.
To understand what normative indicators are considered acceptable depending on the age of a person, you need to familiarize yourself with a short list:
- in a person, the age category from 20 to 40 years, the norm of blood pressure should not exceed 140/90 mm Hg. Art.;
- the average age category (from 41 to 60 years) - the maximum indicators are within 145/90 mm Hg. Art.;
- in persons of the older generation, the maximum allowable rate is 160/90 mm Hg. Art.
Signs of hypertension are considered to be persistent headaches in the back of the head or in the temporal lobe, which appear regularly and last for a long time. Often, this pain syndrome is accompanied by tinnitus and dizziness. It is interesting that such a clinical picture can be observed not only with high blood pressure, but for a number of other completely objective reasons, for example, with a brain tumor or due to low blood pressure.
We list the reasons that can become prerequisites for the occurrence of hypertension:
- the first reason is, of course, the age of the person;
- the second reason is overweight (obesity);
- the third factor is genetics;
- the development of diabetes inevitably leads to hypertension;
- constant stay in stressful tension;
- addiction to alcohol and cigarettes;
- lovers of black strong coffee, when the doses of this drink are simply unacceptable, hypertension may develop;
- hypertension (persistent high blood pressure) can also be provoked by the use of excess amounts of table salt;
- constant excessive physical activity - this can also result in hypertension for the body.
The main symptoms have already been described above, but you should also know that a feeling of increasing anxiety, palpitations, redness of the skin located on the face and neck of a person, lethargy is a manifestation of a disease called hypertension. Remember that only a doctor can determine the true causes of the disease, so do not neglect going to the doctor and you can avoid serious complications.
Consequences of hypertension
The most vulnerable are the heart, brain, blood capillaries, eyes and kidneys.
Therefore, it is advisable to consult a doctor when identifying a disease. It treats hypertensive patients - patients who have high blood pressure, usually a general practitioner, and self-medication can cause the disease to acquire an advanced stage and it will be quite difficult to cure it.
Unfortunately, medical practice proves that in the case of an established diagnosis, it will take a lifetime to monitor pressure indicators in order to control it and take preventive measures in a timely manner. Basically, official medicine deals with the treatment of the disease with medications, but do not forget that there are a lot of non-drug methods and means to stabilize pressure readings.
So, the consequences of high pressure:
- The higher the pressure, the more the heart has to work. The organ is forced to pump blood at double the rate. Of course, over time, the heart adapts to this, that is, adaptation occurs, but this leads to the fact that the muscle fibers thicken. This affects the left ventricle. As a result, the patient is diagnosed with “hypertensive heart”. As a result of this restructuring, muscle fibers lose their elasticity, and a person has shortness of breath even with a slight load associated with physical labor, or when playing sports. The small arteries that penetrate the heart, as a result of prolonged exposure to high pressure, begin to fail in their work, which consists in delivering nutrients and oxygen to the layers of the myocardium. That is why patients often experience chest pain. If you do not consult a doctor in time and do not start timely therapy, then heart failure may develop.
- Hypertension often contributes to the development of a thickening of the wall, called arterial. The diagnosis sounds like arteriosclerosis of the coronary arteries. This phenomenon is the main cause of coronary disease. This disease is characterized by bouts of pain, localized mainly behind the sternum. These are factors in the development of angina pectoris and, in particular, the most dangerous disease - myocardial infarction. Immediate contact with a doctor will help to avoid many diseases of the cardiovascular system.
- Hypertension is also a major factor in the occurrence of brain damage - stroke. It has been established that the risk of stroke in hypertensive patients is 4 times higher than in people whose blood pressure indicators fluctuate within the normal range. The cause of damage to the vessels of the brain in the vast majority of cases is the overlap of the lumen with a blood clot. In a fifth of the total number of people suffering from high blood pressure, a stroke occurs due to hemorrhage. Among other things, disturbances in the blood supply system lead to damage to small vessels located in the brain. If the vessels experience constant oxygen starvation and a lack of nutrients, then this can cause a deviation from mental development.
- Hypertension and arteriosclerotic changes together can disrupt the functioning of the kidneys, namely the vessels, which are the main part of the so-called filtration apparatus. It should be noted that the combination of hypertension and diabetes is extremely dangerous for the kidneys and can cause a serious disease called kidney failure.
- If hypertension is not treated, then this can subsequently cause damage to the retina of the eyes (blood vessels, if they are affected for a long time by such a factor as high blood pressure, become inelastic, one might even say fragile).
