Massage for hypertension
Content
In some cases, massage is indicated for hypertension.
Each of us has heard about such a disease as arterial hypertension. According to statistics, about thirty percent of the adult population take drugs for high blood pressure, in one person out of ten hypertension is a primary independent disease, in the rest it occurs against the background of other pathologies (such as diseases of the kidneys, lungs, endocrine system).
In combination with drug therapy, massage, provided that it is performed correctly, is really effective in lowering blood pressure.
Massage to normalize blood pressure
If arterial hypertension is left unattended, not fulfilling all medical prescriptions, this is fraught with the development of complications that pose a threat to life (stroke, myocardial infarction). Due to some of them, the patient's quality of life may be impaired, he may become disabled or die prematurely.
A disease such as arterial hypertension requires a person to reconsider their habits and their entire lifestyle in general. In order to feel normal and be efficient until old age, it is important to eat right: exclude fatty, salty, alcohol. You should stop smoking. It is important to take prescribed medications in a timely manner. You need to move more, play sports.
There are methods according to which the procedure should be done by a specialist, but there are also those that allow you to massage yourself at home.
Professional massage
If the pressure is increased, then all movements must be performed very carefully, and the entire session should not take more than 15 minutes. A stressful situation can lead to exposure of nerve endings. In this case, any touch can be unpleasant, reminiscent of electric shocks. Therefore, a good specialist approaches each patient individually.
Massage is done sequentially in certain areas:
- Neck area. The impact on this area is made in a sitting position. All movements should be performed from top to bottom.
- Paravertebral zones are massaged with two or three fingers. They start with straight rubbing, then it should be spiral, semicircular, after which pressure is applied to these areas. Finish the massage of this area with gentle stroking.
- Shoulder girdle massage begins with spiral rubbing, then the movements become crossing, sawing. Finish the procedure by kneading the tongs.
Acupressure
Acupressure for hypertension is a very popular service today. Arterial hypertension is often accompanied by pain in the head, so this procedure not only helps to reduce blood pressure, but also eliminates headaches. It is desirable to carry out massage regularly and continuously.
It is important to take into account the following points. Before the procedure, you need to relax. You need to breathe through your nose. Breathing should be calm and even. It is important to focus on your feelings and close your eyes. You need to massage with your index finger. If the points are symmetrical, then they are massaged simultaneously. Start and end the process with light circular motions. The process itself should be done more intensively.
The technique is this:
- The first symmetrical point can be found on the knee joint, at its very edge. Duration of movements 5 min.
- The location of the second point can be calculated by placing four fingers on the end of the knee joint. The point is symmetrical. You need to massage it for 5 minutes.
- The third point is symmetrical, it is located between the first and second metatarsal bones.
- The fourth point can be found between the third and fourth metatarsal bones.
- The fifth point can be found by placing the fingers of the palm above the inner ankle.
- The sixth point is located where the sternocleidomastoid muscle attaches to the occiput.
- The seventh point is located in the parietal fossa, in the place where it is crossed by the muscle that connects the ear shells with the midlines of the head. It takes 3 minutes to massage her.
- Near the angle of the lower jaw, behind the ear, in the fossa, there is the eighth symmetrical point, which is massaged for 3 minutes.
Self-massage to normalize blood pressure
Self-massage for hypertension has its own characteristics, but gives good results. The back massage worked well. Position - lying on the stomach, under the shins it is necessary to put a roller or pillow so that they are located at an angle of at least forty-five degrees. The head should be positioned arbitrarily, hands along the body with palms up. Massage begins and ends with stroking. The middle of the process is performed intensively and vigorously.
You should not continue the session if the patient has sharp pains in the head. During the first procedures, you should choose a not too intense pace, in the future you can perform more and more quickly and vigorously.
Indications and contraindications for massage
Like any medical procedure, massage for hypertension has its own indications and contraindications.
The main thing to do before the procedure is to consult with your doctor.
Massage is shown to normalize blood pressure in almost all hypertensive patients, with the exception of:
- those who have rashes on the skin, hemorrhages with low blood clotting, abscesses and allergic reactions on the skin;
- who has compacted and inflamed blood vessels, enlarged lymph nodes;
- patients with tuberculosis, osteomyelitis, syphilis;
- after the use of painkillers, with acute pain (in the head, including);
- with renal, cardiovascular and liver failure;
- with malignant tumors in the patient's body;
- with mental disorders;
- with febrile conditions, acute respiratory infections and colds.
Most often, people themselves are to blame for problems from far advanced arterial hypertension. They do not pay attention to their health (ignoring, for example, pain in the head), ignore the prescriptions of doctors, do not take medicines that help lower blood pressure to normal limits. The upper limit of the norm is considered to be blood pressure, not exceeding 130/85 mm Hg. Art. If the blood pressure readings exceed these figures, you should immediately consult a therapist.
